Banned Books Week!

The Library/Media Center at Nashville State Community College, where I taught for twenty years, always made a big deal of Banned Books Week–and it IS a big deal. I won’t even touch banning Dr. Seuss for children, but college should be a place where students can grow in their ability to examine, explore, evaluate–basically, think for themselves. Thank you, Faye Jones at NSCC, for sending photos of this year’s display!

Story in WELL READ MAGAZINE

Remember the 2010 flood in Nashville? That’s what I’m writing about in “Things We Keep, Things We Throw Away.” So grateful to WELL READ Magazine for reprinting this story that was first published in 2 Bridges Review. Please comment if my story brings back memories of your experience during that frightening time. My story begins on page 88-89.

First Day of Class!

Today was the first Lifelong Learning class, “Writing Your Story,” at Lipscomb. We actually meet at the beautiful Longview Mansion. It’s a full house this time, and, as always, the participants are delightful. I am so fortunate to be teaching in this program!
