Manuscript to Publisher

This week Doug Jones and I finished our manuscript and submitted it to our editor at Berkley.  A Season of Darkness is the Marcia Trimble story.  It won’t be out for months, but I’m hoping to spread the word. People in Nashville have been captivated by the murder of the nine-year-old Girl Scout for almost 35 years.  At last, her killer was convicted in the July trial. Doug and I have made every effort to tell the accurate and very detailed story.  More about this in the months to come.

True Crime Book in the Works

My friend and fellow writer, Doug Jones, and I are working on a new true crime book, A SEASON OF DARKNESS: THE COLDEST COLD CASE SOLVED. Read about it on our agent’s website here.  We have sold the book to Berkley.  Watch this site for more information about publication date.

Knoxville Writers’ Guild Award

In the Car with Mother” won first place in the Creative Nonfiction category of the Knoxville Writers’ Guild 2008 awards.  This piece is about a two-hour trip along the winding roads from Waynesboro to Nashville, as my mother and I travel from her house to mine on Christmas Eve.  It is about family and memories, change and loss, as we make the familiar journey from my hometown to my present home.  It is about the time in our lives when daughters have to take care of their mothers, and mothers begin to slip away, and every moment is precious, especially at Christmas.

Southern Festival of Books

Co-writer Mike Glasgow and I read excerpts from An Unfinished Canvas at the Southern Festival of Books on another glorious afternoon (the weather is always perfect for the Southern Festival!) during Southern Festival weekend, following the release of the book in early October, 2007.
